Here's a hint that will help you through your life. SHOPS WANT TO SELL THINGS. If they though it'd make a sale, they'd tall you fish don't have to live in water, it' merely optional. That is too many fish, hence, they want you to buy lots of fish from them. When they die from problems associated with overstocking, you'll but more, and they get a lovely profit. You'd be fine with 6 glowlights and 3 cherry barbs. No algae eatingfish, apart from ottos, are small enough for that tank, but ottos are very sensitive, too sensitive for a beginner like you.

cheers, i thought they were scaming me.. they said "oh no 20 is maximum.. and i thought they wudnt have any space 2 themselves? what r ottos? ill probably get them wen its matured B)

hi cud n e 1 suggest a small algae eater for a beginner tank? :/ :/ :/

Hi,

As the others have already mentioned, ottos, are very sensitive. Even the car journey home can be enough to kill them. Also they are happiest in groups, which you just don't have the room for. I would personnaly forget the algae eaters until you have a bigger tank.

Should you decide to buy shrimp (not sure about your space though) then they are better in groups. As for your question on shedding, well mine have shedded once and yes you are left with a skeleton but then you can just fish that out.
