Hi all. I have just finished building & installing my new co2 system. made with a pub co2 bottle, reducer valve, bubble counter, solanoid valve & diffuser.

It is all running lovely but I need help to figure out how many bubbles per min I need to add.

My water chemistry is.

Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
PH 8.2
GH 12+ 214.8ppm+
KH 12+ 214.8ppm+

I await your wisdom.

Thanks

~Tom~

1bps is a good starting point, gradually working up to your desired/required level of efficiency. As for the maximum that is safe for fish i'm unsure, atleast unsure enough to not say anything on the open forum as it could be wrong. So i'll let the propper CO2 experts tell you that.

You really need a drop checker if your new to C02. C02 can be lethal even in small doses in certain water conditions. I'm on my phone at work at the min, so have a look inthe parc section at the top of the planted section. There is a section for drop checkers in there, have a read and if you have anymore questions, give us a shout.

The best wayto determine the amount of co2 is by using a a drop checker with 4dkh solution and bromo blue. Larger tanks require more bps as opposed to a smaller tank so it's hard to go off that alone. Otherwise you could be left with a bunch of algae due to insufficient co2.

i have a drop checker on order, shall i turn of the co2 untill it gets here?

oh & i forgot to say, tank is 180 litres

i would personally leave it off until you get a drop checker, as above you'll need some 4DKH solution. There is also a recipe for that in the PARC section. If the drop checker is gonna take sometime to come, then JBL do a cheap one, most MA will sell them.

Th drop check arrived today. It has some liquid with it. instructions said to add 3-4 drops untill it turned blue & then to turn it over & stick it in the aquarium.

Have I added to much chemical?

I tried to make my own drop checking solution by using DI Water from halfords but my solution turned brown every time without CO2, I then did it on my tap water and it was blue so something wasn't right...

Anyway I ended up just using the pre mixed Dernnele (sp?) liquid and that worked quite well however it is so much slower to react to changes than even out the tap is. It however has been good to me and with a drop checker and solenoid valve I've learn to trust that my CO2 will be the same or almost each night... until my bottle ran out the other day and so it begins setting it up again.
