I need to seperate my gourami and firemouth due to incompalibility.

Last night I set up my 10 gal. as a temp home for one of them. I put water from my other tank in as well as some of the bio-max (ceramic noodles) from my existing filter with a new sponge.

I cannot catch either of them !!! Ugghhh. So before I went to bed I threw a flake of food in there. Should I keep doing doing this like every 6 hours 'til I can catch the fish ? Or is it probably already bye bye.

Thanks

it lives for about 12 hrs with no food, adding some flake will help but it may be touch and go.

to catch the fish, remove all ornaments, drain the tank to 2/3" and use two nets, chase them into one net with the other. :good:

Well all is not lost yet,

It is true that filter media start to die off in 24 hours, but remember, these are the fist animals in a hostile proto earth. Studies have been done, and with an established colony, mass doubling can occur also in about 24 hours. If it is a few days, or even a week, I wouldn't worry. Remember, people routinely go without feeding fish for a week, so you would imagine that during that time, MOST of the ammonia would have disappeared, and yet the tanks don't recycle.

Don't worry, you will catch them. Remember, suck most of the tank water out, so they have nowhere to swim, then you can trap them :good:

EDIT: darn, your a quicker gun, Miss wiggle! p.s. That cat scares me a bit!

Thanks everyone ! I went to the store and bought a 10" net...LOL. I will remove the big decorations and drain some water. I figure I will hold one net and husband the other till we catch him.
I also bought a new 29 gal. bowfront tank to put the firemouth in this weekend. It was $40 off ! Yippee ! Now I have a whole new project going so I will be back with more questions. I am grateful for finding this website. Everyones help is much appreciated :)

Congratulations on the new tank!!! It's amazing how quickly we end up with another tank, especially when you just went to get another net. You can blame it on Miss Wiggle.

On a side note, I couldn't help but notice your avatar. Looks a lot like our Trixie, a shih tzu - poodle mix..

ahem, this is the new reformed miss wiggle. within the next few weeks I will be down to just 1 tank!!!!

Awwww...Trixie is just adorable. I have never seen a poodle mix. My Tzu is named Raspy. I am 37 and no children so she is my BABY ! She is not very smart.....just a real cuddle bug :)

LOL..Yup another tank. I noticed most people on here have more than 1 and now I know why !

It IS easy to end up with more than one tank. I'm preparing to buy my second one as well. Going for a 50 Us gallon!
Your dogs are cute
And Miss Wiggle, I have to agree with CarbonDreams...the cat is just a wee bit unsettling. :p

Oh goodness...

Opened up the tank box and it is broken :(

Tested water from the 10 gal. and showing nitrite....must be from the flakes of food.

Nothing is ever easy !

Just incase anyone reading this thread is confused...

Your filter media doesn't die without fish, it is the bacteria that live on the media that dies.

It's a pain to get something like that home and find it broken expecially since they aren't light. Hopefully, you won't have any trouble returning it. The fact that the 10 gallon has nitrite at least tells you that there is bacteria processing ammonia.
