How Long Do I Run The Magnum Micron Cartridge

I have recently experienced a green water (algae bloom). So I decided to take out my Magnum 350's Micron Cartrdige. After about 30 minutes I looked on the cartridge and it is loaded with debris. How long do I run it to clean the water?

With just the filter, I hear it takes a day or two to clear the water. I have the Magnum HOT filter and I use Diatomaceus Earth with it and can clear the tank in a few hours.
