i found this forum by accident when i 1st started keeping fish and at 1st ( and still does too ) i found it to be a friendly place where the people helped me through all my early mistakes. but i think theres more to it than that. i personaly find that it helps inject extra interest into our chosen hobby by reading aboput other peoples experiences with the fish you keep/comparing them with your own etc adds that extra element of interest to how you keep ypur own fish .

how do the other members see this ?

absolutely for example id never of thought of giving my cichlids prawns if i hadnt spoken to members on here that do it and the pics people put on can inspire you with things you can do with your own tank i coulkd go on forever lol this forum and the people on it have given my hobby so much

I have to agree, the breeding I did with my gourmis i probably wouldn't have done it with out the forum. Not only that upgraded my light source for my planted tank from 30watts to 160 watt 6500 kelvin and plants are starting to really come along. Not only that figured out my Breeding pair mistake with my angels behavour, they always acted strange and usually because of them getting ready to breed ><. Its been right all along everytime they get aggressive i know a new batch of eggs will appear on a amazon sword plant and they do lol.

Even thinking of getting into discuss cause of this forum now >< oh man how i love it!

yes this forum is a good and bad place :shifty:
I only used to keep some goldfish in a 3ft......My wifes fault really as one day she and our student at the time came home day of my birthday with one 2inch oscar in a bag  At this time i did not know anything about cichlids, The student kept oscar's in colombia and said to wife they do not need a heater<obviously in medellin the temps always 24-30c so the usual temp in tanks is around 24c.......
So i wanted to know all about oscars, Googled and found this site,, Got the bug, brought the 566litre, then saw pics, learnt about them brought them etc etc, so yes this forum has a lot of exsplaning to do but......I love it :shout:

without this forum i would never have found my love of bettas

and would of still been stuck with tank after tank of guppies and nothing else

also helped me a lot when my BN's bred

pretty much exactly what happened with me mate i won some money enough to get a nice new tv and after buying that there was some left. my missus had always been on about having a tank id always liked them so we bought a 2nd hand 3 footer ,in which we had the usual neons guppies platties etc . then whilst browsing around the web to learn about fish i stumbled accross this forum got the bug even worse saw what fish etc there was out there and wanted more. so when we had some more spare money i upgraded to the 456 litre and the rest as they say is history .

If it weren't for this forum, I would still have a 3ft tank with goldfish in and no tropicals at all. I would also still be cleaning it out once a year, by putting the goldfish in the bath, stripping it down, BOILING everything including the filter media, before setting it back up again.

lol you think you love it now wait til you are older and get your own place then get to decide what tank size etc youl love it even more then .

it sems to be generally agreed this forum is good for in my opinion at least 2 main points 1 the people on here are all very friendly and helpfull so its an excellent pool of shared knowledge and experience 2 you can see what other peoplee do in their tanks and be inspired for ideas of what to do with your own tank

this forum is where i bacame aware of and ultimately fell in love with central/south american cichlids. 1 day as long as 100ukg is big enough id like to have my tank as a species only tank for a breeding pair of jags, how cool would that be? again this itself bring me back to my main point. it was seeing nellys brutis that gave me that idea

Before joining my tanks were pretty boring (couple of plants and a rock) but now i've gone out and bought some bogwood, riccia, mesh to make a carpet and got some java moss on the way,

All because i saw some really nice planted tanks on here,

keep up all the good work!!!
Jake
