Is it gor-a-me or is it something else never known how to really say it.

Assuming fish names are prononced in the same way as latin plant names, then the emphasis is always on the penultimate syllable.

Hence: gor ar mee

Thanks for the link fishkiller. Thankfully that's how i've always pronounced it, gurr - army. :)

do we all have to say it with an american accent too?? ;)

 It all depends on where you come from. The phonetics of gourami could be very different indeed.
So if you want so say it in a Scots accent then goo-ram-ay it is!

hehe. we laugh a lot about this at work. people come in and ask for gourmets or gour mays. it mkes us chuckle

What I don't understand is why everyone (almost anyway) is inserting this extra 'R' after the 'A' lol I would say it sounds like 'gu-rah-mee' :p

Any accent is fine, as long as you say it in a baritone/deep male voice, like the one on the audio file
