Ok, at the risk of sounding really thick...how do people who use the frozen cubes of red blood worms/ brine shrimp feed it to their fish.

I have been taking the cubes out, waving them about in the water till a few worms fall off, then I put the cube back into the tray and back into the freezer.

However, I'm not sure if this is the recommended method, plus this is not very nice on my hands.....its a bit yucky , to say the least!

So how do other people do it?

Oh, yeah, and how much should I feed? I'm really scared I'll over feed...

Thanks! :good:

In my community tank I just chuck a cube in, its really cool to fish all the fish picking at it. Plus bits fall off in the currents for fish who are as confident..

IMO your method takes to long (lazy me :)) Lucy :good:

i take cube out and put it in a little cup i have

i cut it with my "fish knife" ^^

put some tank water in, and stir it, then some warm water

then using a pipette, baster, suck some up and squirt it out :)

I just simply break out the blocks of frozen foods, & chuck it into the water...... The fish attacks it immediately & what seems to be too cold.... They are clever enough to just allow it to defrost!

Indeed.
Just throw the cubes in the tank. Contrary to popular belief, its not harmful to the fish unless you chuck a hundred of them in a small tank. Or if the fish you have are very sensitive (babies. Ect.)

The only time I defrost them is to feed my baby arowanas because they are so fragile, and they only eat them one or two at a time. So for them I thaw it in a cup of tank water then use a baby eyedropper tp feed them.
Besides that, just throw the cubes directly in the tanks.

Ok Thanks!

So how much should I use?

I think one block would be way too much for my tank? They'd burst!

Maybe a third of a block perhaps?

And for my Betta...he's on his own at the moment? How much should he get?

for betta, i would drop some in initially and see how many he can handle =/

my dwarf puffers take 3-4 easily lol :D

It really depends on how much they will eat.
My exodons will eat a WHOLE PACK if I let them. I cube disappears in about 5 seconds. Lol
Yous won't do that, but they will probably eat more then you would imagine. Try dropping one cube in, and see how fast hey eat it.

Thanks all!

By the way the fish food I have is 'Ocean Nutrition Bloodworms' and 'Ocean Nutrition Artemia Brine Shrimp.'...so I think they are similar to what you are talking about Truckasauras? They have about 35 cubes of frozen product in each box.

Hmmm, if I drop one cube in, is there not a risk of over feeding though? Like would they be fat bloaters for ages afterwards and end up getting constipation and eventually swim bladder problems (like Elvis, in the fish world? :shifty: )

I know I'm going on about this, but its just I had a beautiful betta months and months ago, a gift from my sister, and I only had him about two days before problems started.

I had been feeding the rest of the tank (6 Cardina tetra at the time) some blood worm, I gave enough to cater for one worm per fish, but this fella was a greedy lad and ate the whole lot before the others got to it...so about 6 blood worms in a row.

The next day he was on his side, not eating, then by a day or two later he was dead. I didn't even have him a week...I was gutted! I'm guessed at the time the cause of death was over feeding.

So, I really don't want that to happen again?

I only feed my current Betta 2 worms...its easy to control what he gets as he's in on his own.

But, for my bigger tank, are you sure that dropping a whole cube in won't lead to problems? Surely thats loads of food for such a small amount of fish?

As I only have a 9 tetras and a couple of platys atm I slice bits off with a stanly blade and then let them defrost in a small cup of tank water. When I tip it in lots of bits go in all directions and so everyone gets a good chance.

Obviously with the filter off lol!
