Hi All
hope its ok to put this in emergencies, I'm sure there is a million other threads on this matter but time is of the essence.

About 3 months ago I installed a fish tank in a night club, it was in the toilets in a quiet area and i surrounded it with rubber so hopefully not that cruel. When I did it I was told that I would maintain it, however the owner, being a bit of a pr!ck desided that he could do it.

He has now rang me asking if I can rescue it as its gone green (they never turned the lights off!).
As much as i would like to tell him where to shove it, there are fish in there and I would like to look pro because I want to get sometime every week to save it.

My question is-
What would be the absolute fastest way to get rid of green and black algie on gravel and glass? The club has this big event on tonight and the owner has rang up panicking, Anyway to do it in a day?

Any advice greatly appreacated
(And critacism about putting tanks in clubs I spose!)

take all the decor out and scrub it. do a thorough algae scrape of all the glass, maybe replace the gravel and decor with new stuff if it just won't come clean, when it's done and put back in then give it an hr or two for the filter to suck up all the muck that will be floating in the tank, then clean the filter.

Think you probably could do it in a day to get it clean, but it would mean a lot of hard work. From then obviously you'd have to take steps to stop it coming back, i.e. sensible photoperiod, plant the tank well, if you don't mind adding chemicals there are some that claim to clear up water although I don't know how effective they are.

good luck :)

Cheers Miss Wiggle

Will do that. Don't think I really want to use chemicals.

I will put a timer on the light aswell and probably put in some algy eaters, can anyone tell me a particulary efficient one?

how big is the tank and what is it stocked with?

Hey,

3x1.5x1ft and its gonna cain my arm because im gonna have to stand on a chair and there is only half a foot gap to work in. It has a few gourami, its really sparse just pea gravel. I think i'm gonna wack in some rocks n stuff but he doesn't really want me to.

hmmm I dunno abotu an algae eater for it, I think the gourami's would nip at amano shrimp. Most plec's aren't actually that good algae eaters and are high waste and can grow big so probably not the best idea for what (realistically speaking) is gonna need to be a low maintenance tank. Putting a poop machine in there isn't gonna help anyone if he's not looking after it properly. I would stick loads of quick growing plants like alodeadenza and cabomba (probably spelt wrong) in as they will help combat algae, and then reduce the photoperiod, sticking it on a timer is a good idea :D
