Does anyone use an Aquarian hover for a planted tank with a sand base? I went to the LFS yesterday to get one, and they said don’t bother, and that the sand will get into the motor

Does anyone use an Aquarian hover for a planted tank with a sand base? I went to the LFS yesterday to get one, and they said don’t bother, and that the sand will get into the motor

I use a siphon in my tank (planted with sand) and it's fine provided you keep the siphon hovered above the waste, most sands are in fact heavier than the waste so providing you get a knack for it you will be able to siphon the tank with a minimal amount of sand being "sooked" up.

That’s what I did yesterday, but its quite densely planted and the end of the siphon is huge, maybe I will shop around for a small one

If its heavily planted the poop can also act as a fert for your plants, like manure on a farm. Some people with heavily planted tanks don't siphon at all depending on how much waste is produced compared to how heavily planted the tank is.
