Honeymoon! Which Auto Feeder ?

.going on honey moon next week which feeder to use for 14 days . saw some in a shop today but they didnt look very good .thought they would pollute the water. has anyone had good experiences of any auto feeders. thanks

to be honest, unless you have fry, your fish will be fine with out food - I would find this better than risking an automatic feeder malfunctioning and dumping all of the food in once leading to decay, ammonia spikes, and dead fish....
same if you ask someone unfamiliar with fish to feed your fish for you - overfeeding by a novice is fast death.

in the wild, fish often go periods of time with out food - it is not regularly available like in a tank!

isn't two weeks a bit too long though?

I've left mine with no food for a week with no issues.

no they should be fine....make sure you don't feed freezedried foods before you leave - add extra veggie material to their diet for a few days before you leave and all should be well! pick up an automatic timer for your lights

I think you should try to get somebody to check up on the tank once each week at the very least. I have no experience with auto-feeders, but it doesn't sound like they are reliable. Fish can go for a long period of time without food, but if I were you, I would definitely want somebody to check and make sure the tank is ok, not just for feeding purposes but issues such as the heater, or making sure no dead fish are decaying in the tank (which of course we would hope doesn't happen). If a person fed once a week, maybe twice, the fish would be well off.

Its really true, the debate about when its getting too long (debate that I've seen among experienced members) is out there past 3 weeks or a month or so. Two weeks is pretty well accepted as being ok. I've done it pretty long myself with no problem (there's one heck of a rush when the first flakes hit the surface afterward, lol.)

That said though, I find it personally quite easy to pay neighbor kids or have relatives drop by and do things to my tanks when I'm not in. I know people live in lots of different circumstances though, so just saying this to encourage creativity on the part of finding help... Nowadays it bothers me more not having my plant nutrients dosed than not feeding the fish.

ok thanks for all the help im not really happy with leaving them unfed for 2 weeks.has anyone any experience of any of the feeders.only feed once a day anyway. tank not been set up lond so just wouldnt want to risk any losses

I assume you can't get someone to come in once each week?

Eheim are supposedly good, to be honest I don't think the brand matters as long as you don't stuff it with food.

If you can't get a hold of a good feeder, or have someone come by and feed the fish for you, I would advise you turn the heater in the tank down a couple of degrees. This will slow their metabolism, which will make them need less food. Just a little trick.

Just so you have some feedback. I bought the smaller Eheim autofeeder and have found it to be an excellent product. It is dependable, the food doesn't get mushy and it has lots of options for feeding, even if you want to do just a little bit. If you are thinking about this, I would give yourself a couple of days to experiment with set up thought.
