what are your water stats out of curiousity. I've often wondered how people managed years ago without water changes and filters and test kits and all that.

Thanks!, I didnt notice that! My ammonia is 0, my nitrites are 0, and my nitrates are 25. My ph is 7.8. I dodnt do waterchanges on my 10g but everything else needs it or else my fish die from bad water and nitrates. I just dont do changes on my 10 g becasue it has sand and it is a hassle!

Don't mean to cut you down kribensis mate, but what you made isnt a filter (other than maybe an air filter) and wouldnt work as a filter. Imagine an air filter as a narrow tube, open at the bottom, that you introduce air into halfway up the tube. The rising bubbles go up through the upper half, pulling water in from the bottom. The filter element surrounds this lower half. What you made is basically a chamber for bubbles. Air pressurizes the box, and comes out the top, theres no motion of water.

inane cathode I agree that kribs filter wouldn't work as it is designed but what about my idea. if you put holes in the bottom for intake then the entire container would be the uptake tube of the sponge filter.

I dont think that would work either, heres why. In a regular air filter, the bubble rising through the tube seals off the tube as it rises, effectively acting like a piston, it seals the edges and displaces water above it. Putting holes in the bottom of the can wouldn't do much if anything, it'd be like a piston thats not sealed, it'd stir around water, and thats about it.

Without a seal, the rising bubbles can't do anything but locally disturb water.
Now. If you wanna get real creative, you could have a multi-gallery super air filter that uses a series of tubes, or section off the can.

Thanks you guys, even thought most posts werent very nice onexception of about 5. And dizzied F you. You cannot judge people buy water changes excpecially when there are only 2 tadploe
