Hi,

i started the home made yeast mix instead of the bottled premade stuff that redsea do...and what a HUGE difference it makes! i have a 2litre bottle...so i added 10desert spoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of dried yest...it went mad within an hour...i mean powered diffuser going about 15bubbles a second...it is constantly firing out loads of them...would i be better cutting the yeast down to say half a teaspoon first?

Thanks

Yeah less yeast about half sounds right, you will get more consistent levels of Co2 and the mixture will last longer. I don’t know how big your tank is, but if it’s a small tank keep an eye on the fish and if they are breathing faster or going to the top of the tank bring the diffuser closer to the surface so that less Co2 dissolves.

you also find that DIY mix tends to go mad for the first 12 hours or so then settles... I normally make mine in the evening and connect it up the following morning.

i decided to turn the diffuser off overnight and let the mix settle. i will turn it back on tomorrow morning and then check it at lunch time in between work!

so you think it should settle down ye? if it doesn't settle i will redo the mix...i have just halved the yeast with a new mix so i will see how it goes

Thanks

I guess youre talking about heaped teaspoons.

In a 2 Ltr I used to put 1¼ properly measured teaspoon yeast and 11 dessertspoons sugar and in the Nutrafins which are bout ½Ltr I used to put ½ a properly measured teaspoon

I did get about 3-4 bubbles a second but that was off 2 Nutrafins + 2Ltr

Never had a problem until I went pressurised and tried to do it cheaply. lol

I used proper measuring spoons and not rough guesses with your normal spoons. I will keep a close eye on the mix and see what happens

Thanks
