Hi all, I am going on a 2 week holiday soon and currently trialing one of the Tetra Min holiday blocks, the one that is incased in gel and is not supposed to pollute the water. At the mo its 5 days now and the fish have not touch it, i dont know if this is normal or wether they just dont like it.Is the gel supposed to dissovle? has any body used them? all your veiws welcomed

Thxs Ian

have not used them personally but i would think that the gell would disolve and come away as the fish disturb it, i have no dea why they arent eating it though, are you still feeding them normally while having it in the tank

get it out of the tank, all they are, are ammonia factories, theyll be fine for a week maybe two without food, get a neighbour to come in and feed the food you have left out so they dont get over fed, when i was last on holiday i left my fish without food for 3 weeks (not my fault)

I tried some of those gel cups last year when I was gone for 2 weeks. When I came home the cups were empty and all the fry in my tanks were gone. I had a couple left so I decided to try them out in my community tank while I was there to watch. I dropped one into the 120 gallon tank and the next day it was empty, I tried another with the same result. It seems that once the fish figure out that it is food, they eat it until it is gone. I could have given them a large pinch of food before leaving on vacation and had the same result. As Truck said, see if you can have a neighbor come in once or twice a week and feed pre-measured amounts each time.

Totally agree on the feeder blocks. Total waste of money. Your fish can easily go 2 weeks without feeding. A lot of members leave their fish unfed to take a weeks vacation. I have done it on many occasions. Fish in the wild certainly don't get fed daily.

The other option is as mentioned. Place a normal feeding in small cups (some people use the pill holders that seniors use to keep up with their daily mediations) and just instruct who ever is going to feed them to put in one cup a day, 2 days, 3 days or ever how often you want them to do it. Explain to them before hand that it really only takes a small amount of food so they understand that the amount you have in the cups is enough but still hide the rest of the food so they can't arbitrarily decide to add more food.

If not get a relative to feed them.

Thats what i'm doing. I'm going away for two weeks and hes going to feed them 3 times a week.
