ive done it before but cant remember how i work it out.

i just wondering what the recommended amount of fish was (in inches) for my 500L tank.

Depends on the size and type of fish.
If you are adding small fish then there's the 1" per US gallon guide that you can extend to 1.5-2" based on the maturity and filtration of your tank.
500L is about 132 US gallons so that would give you roughly 132" of small fish for a cycled but not neccessarily matured or over filtered tank.

thank you kia. off to do my sums now, this is gonna hurt my head!

i have in there at the moment

20+ platys
3 mollys
3 unknown tetra
10 h+t tetras
12 cardinal tetras
2 killifish
2 zebra danios
5 corys
4 plecos
1 brachardi sydontis (sp)
1 hoplo catfish
1 banjo catfish
2 juvi angels
1 gourami
1 kuhli loach
2 shrimp

i am picking up 5 adult angels on sunday but unsure which tank they are going in yet. if they go in one of my other tanks, the two young angels will be taken out of the community tank. it all depends how big these new angels are, if they are big enough to munch the smaller fish, they wont be going in!

i have also been asked to take in "dwergbotia x4, regenboog wernery x6, neon tetra x19, Corridores x6, Ramirezi x2 & Algenetersx2". i cant find out what regenboog wernery are im waiting on a latin name from the guy, i cant find a translation but im guessing some sort of rainbow fish. obviously ramirezi are 2 rams, 2 algeneters are 2 plecos then you have the neons and corys. not sure what a dwergbotia is but they look like this http://images.google.be/images?hl=en&q...mages&gbv=2

20+ platys = ~40"
3 mollys = ~6"
3 unknown tetra = ~6"
10 h+t tetras = ~15"
12 cardinal tetras = ~24"
2 killifish = ~5"
2 zebra danios = ~4"
5 corys = ~15" (depends on which corys)
4 plecos = ~ (depends on which plecos)
1 brachardi sydontis (sp) = ~6"
1 hoplo catfish = ~5"
1 banjo catfish = ~4"
2 juvi angels = ~ (depends on which angels)
1 gourami = ~4"
1 kuhli loach = ~4"
2 shrimp (such a small amount of shrimp isn't going to impact on your bioload any)

So far you're looking at around 138" not including the angels and plecos, so I'd say pretty much fully stocked. If you are over filtered/can up the filtration that will help and I'm going presume that your tank is fairly mature?

"I am picking up 5 adult angels" - depends on which angels as to how big they will get

dwergbotia x4 = ~10"
regenboog wernery x6 = ~24"
neon tetra x19 = ~28.5"
Corridores x6 = ~18" (depends on which corys)
Ramirezi x2 = ~7"
Algenetersx2 = ~ (depends on which plecos)

So that's a further 87.5" not including the angels and plecos.
Giving you ~225.5" that's about 1.7" of fish per US gallon plus you've got to add the angels and plecos on that and some plecos can be quite heavy on the bioload.
You might be able to manage it - I don't know your experience and skills in fish keeping, but I'd say you'd be a bit too far over stocked with the new additions.
I also don't know if you will have compatibility issues with any of them.

not all of the new stock is going into the 500L :) that is to be split amongst three other aquariums too due to compatibility issues.
the algeneters turn out to be 2 sialese algae eaters, so they wont be mucky plecos thank the lord!

the rams are having there own tank as i have confirmation they are a couple.

the regenboog wernery cannot go into my community due to fin nippers so they shall be transferred to the guppy aquarium.

the neons, corys and dwerg botia will be going in the community set up.

the adult angels i will have to wait and see, i wont know where they are going until they are collected.

Kia -thank you so much for all that, that is a fabulous help! is thr inches the adult size the fish will grow too?

the tank is seriously overfiltered and mature, it was home to two (very messy) adult oscars and 4 large catfish(!)

The inches I've typed are approx adult sizes, for example I've gone with 3" per cory, but some will only reach 2", some will get a bit bigger than 3" so it's a rough estimation.
Glad to help =)
