Hideous Algae Growth

I wouldn't trust most LFSs opinions on what encourages lush plant growth. Better of doing your own research and sourcing your own things. There are plently of examples of good plant growth on this forum to help you.

I recently got pressurised co2 it cost

30 pound for 3kg co2
28 quid for a bubble counter, check valve, diffuser and drop checker
about 80 quid for a solenoid and a regulator

138 pound excluding 4dkh water, tubing, timers etc

The person I spoke to at the LFS says he runs a c02 system in a similar tank size to myself and he only has an occasional bit of green algae on the glass of the tank. Some of the people working at the LFS are personal friends of my dad so it's not like I'm going to receive badly thought out advice like what you would get from P@H most days.

I have no idea what those components are that you mentioned (check valve, drop checker, solenoid, relevance of a timer etc).

what Si, is saying is...that you'll pay £250 at LFS for this kind of system, friends or not. I payed £200 for mine and that was a 500g bottle of C02. Make sure you LFS does a price match.

Yup, I'm not trying to sell you anything and feel I have been fairly sucessful with my plants. I could've easily spent £275... for a minimal kit down the road from me but didn't even though they have been helpful. If you don't know about co2, I suggest you do lots of reading as it certainly won't help if you don't know what you're doing. I'd suggest putting some faster growing plants in there regardless of what you do... Usually when people talk about 'planted tanks' the majority of plants are fast growing.

I wouldn't be taking advice on CO2 from someone who said this to me :)

Means that he may well have the CO2 working but not got circulation sorted. That rings alarm bells these days.
