Hello I've got a couple of goldfish not new to it but my father kept loads of marine fish in the 90's so he taught me alot about fish keeping.
So the kids decided it time to upgrade to a new tank.
I have 125liter tank
substrate gravel
some plants and rounded bog wood
Looking for a decent filter as goldfish seem to be harder to look after due to the amount of waste they produce.
here is a link to my progress so far.

I think that goldfish need a little bigger than a 125 liter but you probably could squeeze one in there.
Welcome to the forums btw.

Hello thanks for the welcome!
Yes I have a 300 liter tank in the garden waiting to be re used, but one of the goldfish I have is only three months old and a tiddler, the other is about 5 years old and about 3" long. So soon as I can buy a good external filter was thinking a Aqua one 1250 should cope!

Its funny most people think tropical and marine are hard to look after, but I find goldfish even hard with the constant waste they produce!
My Ammonia levels spiked when cycling and it took two weeks (without fish) to bring it down.
One thing I learned recently is the watching for poo trails and see if there is any colour, as its a sign of over feeding them!
My ph is about 8 and I was tempted to buffer, but my fathers advice was "let it naturally settle as most people tend to react too quickly and it swings the other way too quickly"?

I completely agree! The sheer amount of crap goldfish make is near impossible to deal with. Dunno about being more difficult than marine though. They're only for the real fish geeks IMO

My father must have lost about 12 various marine fish due to one bad fish. I must have been about 12yrs old, he never looked at fish the same way afterwards! He had been doing it constant for 10 years straight before that inccident. Guess the old man made it look easy to me LOL!

I was thinking about a Eheim gravel cleaner to speed it all up the hoover seems to take out too much water too quickly and I'm loosing substrate its not a biggy as it goes back into the tank.
Main difference is I don't like sticking the waste water back in due to its content even if its got a waste bag.
