It's been a while since I posted here. I like the forum's new look.

Last year I gave my fish to my brother-in-law. They all now live in a 55g. My crowntail dies about 2 months ago. He looked tired and I guess it was his time.

Anyways, six weeks ago I decided to set up the 2.5g tank again near my PC. I chose blue gravel because it would be a huge contrast to the red carpet in my room. two weeks ago, after my tank was cycled, I went to Petland Discounts just to browse. Maybe I'd find that black betta I missed my chance on a couple of years ago. Nothing. And the aquatic area looked like a beginner was taking care of it. Eeecchhh. Wednesday I went to Petco. They had some nice crowntails, but if I were to get one I wanted one in Royal Blue. Or any type for that matter as long as it was Royal Blue. No such lick. They had a nice red crowntail, but the body was lighter but not light enough to be a cambodian. I went to the other section where they kept bettas and found more crowns. Nice multi-colored crowns, but not what I am looking for. Then on the side hiding behind the first row was this pale little guy with reddish fins. Hmmmm... I looked at the shape of his dorsal and got excited. I then looked at the shape of his collapsed tailfin and I knew I had to grab it! His tail was beat up, but I didn't care. I'll nurse him back to health. I had no idea what color he was, only that he was a delta/halfmoon. I set the bag on the tank for about 30 minutes. I then put him in the tank with the lights off. I'll look at him the next day. Poor little pale guy. I hope he likes his new little home. Yesterday I turned on the light and found out he was a color I thought I'd never find - volcano. Brown dark body with red fins. He's actually a copper. He likes to flare at everything - even me. Such audacity. I'll have some pictures this weekend.

i'm sure you'll nurse him back to health in no time and he'll look just amazing!

Wow, I got lucky. After a week of feeding him micropellets (just something easy until he settles in), I decided to try something. I wiggled my finger near the top of the water until I got his attention. When he looked, I dropped a betta pellet. After he finished it, I wiggled my finger again and dropped another pellet. I did this 3 more times and then left. The next morning I approached the tank looking at him. He looked at me and went on about his business. I wiggled my finger on top again and he came looking up at my finger and stayed. I dropped a pellet and he ate it. I waited a few seconds if he was expecting more. He began to swim away in a few seconds. I wiggled my finger over the top again and he came to the area under it. When I stopped, he stayed where he was looking at the surface like he was anticipating a pellet drop. Pretty cool. Just took one lesson.

I think he was dropped on the counter when they were going from bag to cup and that's probably how he had his tail torn. I know the tailrip pattern all too well. At least he seems lively and forgot about the ordeal.

Aww, his poor tail...he's beautiful though!

This forum makes me want to buy more bettas...must resist...for now :)
