Hi all, iv'e been looking for a good forum as a place to start for keeping a nano reef tank and this looks a very active and helpfull resource (as i have read allot of threads on here).

As i said i'm looking to setup a reef tank in the near future but first i want to do some extensive research as i know there is a learning curve so can someone recommend a good book to start me off?

I was reading a thread on here and a one of the Moderators "BigC" mentioned "THE BOOK" from Amazon but he didn't mention (or i could not find where he mentioned) the name of "THE BOOK"

Regards all

Mat

Welcome to the forum NMatlamont.
I am going to drop Big C a line and see if he will come here to help you. I am not a salty person at all so I have no idea what "the book" is.

Hi Matt.
As already mentioned A warm Welcome to TFF forum boards, I hope you enjoy your time here.
Nano Reefs are interesting affairs. They take a lot of keeping up to, more so than larger set-ups.
So always be on top of an arising situation and monitor it before it becomes irreversible and you loose some prize fish and corals.
These may seem like hard words but so long as you keep up with your maintenance regime and observe things at every opportunity then things will run smooth. Starting a new reef from scratch is a lengthy process and one that cannot be rushed, if you do it will end in disaster and you'll probably be a whole lot poorer after the event.
If you get a chance read my journal Dawn on the Reef this will hopefully explain a lot of things which will possibly apply to all newcomers to this side of the hobby.
Above all take things slowly.
The book will not help you much in the way to starting up a nano tank, Its a Coral reference book, but every marine aquarist should own a copy, its called Aquarium Corals: Selection, Husbandry and Natural History by Eric Borneman
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aquarium-Corals-Selection-Husbandry-Natural/dp/1890087475/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279742611&sr=1-1
Well worth the expense
I hope this helped in some way
Any more questions then just ask or pm me if theres no one around
Regards
C
