I'm kinda new to the fish thing! I'm trying to breed guppies and it's not going well at all. I've had my 3 females and one male for about two months and no babies:( I know nothing about this and I'm in desperate need of advice. Please please help me!

it may be that they are having fry and getting eaten, keep the adult fish  well fed and make sure there are plenty of plants in your tank for fry in to hide

What are the best plants to get? I only have one plastic plant in there now. I didn't know plants and breeder boxes were needed. Thank you.

Any broad-leaved plant or the long-leaved ones. Avoid feathery plants as guppies will more or less nibble that to pieces.

As for your breeding project, why don't you turn it to a 2 male-3 female project to ensure proper insemination of the females

java moss, best plant for breeding fish.
Gust feed them well and do lots of water chnages 20-30% each week and your soon have babies

Just give them time. And like everyone said... Plants and places for them to hide. I had a couple of guppies in a five gallon for the longest and were having maybe two get survive.and when they got moved to the 55 they were all surviving. More places to hide!

There isn't a whole lot to guppy breeding... Its just what they do... If you have a male and female guppy... You will be a breeder eventually... Whether you want to be or not! Lol. Good luck.

well you have a good gender ratio of guppies just give them time and let nature take it's course. make sure you keep them well fed so that they will often spare the frys or if you want to be sure put the pregnant guppy in a separate tank. try cabomba and hornwort for plants for the frys to hide in. always keep an eye on them  and watch for squared guppy belly that looks like it's about to pop and put her in separate tank alone if you want to be sure.

that's what i do based from my experience and it's working so don't worry you'll be overrun with this cute little fishes in no time because they breed like rabbits haha.
Good luck with your fishies!

Thank you! So I see that some people are talking about the time they leave the light on in the tank? Mine is left on all the time, is that wrong also?

Yes, it is, you shouldn't leave the light on all the time; fish have evolved to have a night time, just like everything else!

Apart from stressing the fish (they don't sleep, exactly, but they do need a period of darkness for resting), you're likely to get a lot of algae growth if you have the lights on for too long.

If you have live plants, you should have your lights on for between six and eight hours. If you don't have live plants, then just switch the lights on when you're there looking at the fish. Fish don't actually need a light on at all; we just have lights so we can see them :)

Omg I woke up and bam!!! 4 baby guppies!!! I hope they don't get eaten!! Haven't had a chance to get to pet store for plants!!!!

Thank y'all so much for all the advice and tips. So I can only find two this morning. And they are hiding pretty good. I'm so excited, not as excited as my six yr old daughter!!! It makes me want to make my tank better. So I can't wait to go to the pet store and get some plants and look at a breeder box. I don't know if I'm ganna go with that or not. So one more question... What's the best food to feed guppies?

I feed mine tropical flakes... And just make sure to crush tiny pieces that will reach the bottom for the babies!
