I have a pair of Brichardi cichlids 7-8cm (AKA Lyretail cichlids) in one of my tanks, have had them for about 6-8 months. From what i can tell, teeth are normal, 2 up 2 down. From what i have read, they should be treated as semi-aggressives, as they can become extremely territorial to other species, especially at feeding time, and when going thru a breeding cycle. I have had to build a barrier to separate them from the other more peaceful 'citizens' in the tank - 140lit, 24degC, 1pr Julidochromis transcriptus (currently breeding)(5-6cm), 1 golden algae eater (6cm), 1 plec of unknown species (12cm), 1 golden apple snail. Luckily the Lyretails haven't successfully bred yet, i suspect it may be because they can see thru the mesh of the barrier and can see the other fish in the tank and that keeps them 'patrolling the wire'. I intend to buy a new tank sometime in the near future just for the Lyretails, as this is the only way i can see moving forward, short of selling them which i'd rather not do.
Regarding your comment on food, i'd suggest you avoid the chicken and beef (think about what they have access to in the wild). I have fed mine chopped baby earthworms (1 earthworm about 2-4cm long makes a good meal), or a small bit of mashed up shrimp or prawn (about size of your little finger nail) - not all the time, but as a treat once a week. They don't seem to like taking food from the surface, but prefer to take it as it sinks.
Regarding your query on spawning frequency, since mine haven't successfully bred, i can't tell you, but from what i have read, they could potentially go thru a cycle every 2 months or so. BUT be warned, i have also read that when they get territorial they could even turn on their own young.
Good luck.
