can any of you who keep these, give me their experiences.

I have recently rescued one. but have no experience of them.

Ive kept these for nearly 4 years and ive never had a problem with them. lovely temperaments and so easy to breed.ive housed mine with bolivian rams and blue acara and they all get on really well ,mine are about 4 - 5 inch obviously the female being smaller .
mine are kept in a 29 G tank and they are a nice addition to a cichlid community .Theyre not an aggressive cichlid but get a bit protective when .hope this helps

thanks for the reply.

it seems a lovely fish, as you say. it in a 50ukg 4 foot tank. its mates are, silver dollars, Featherfin synos (2), a small green terror (5 years old only 5 inches and a real pussy cat) and a few bottom dwellers.

it had a "face off" with the GT, within minutes of entering. but nothing since.

do you notice much colour changing?

only when he gets amarous with the female or when he has a stand off which isnt very often his yellow goes brighter and the black stripes get darker ,looks lovely when theyre both mating .really rich colours

Aggred,a beautiful cichlid and for a cichlid peaceful,watch with the gt because gt's are aggressive in comparasion, but you should enjoy these beauts

lol, yeah nelly. i always have one eye on the GT.
my "rainbow cichlid", has gone a blue tone, perhaps because of the GT? striking fish though . and a placid as people say, too.
to save me doing a "g00gle. is it easy to tell female from male?
