Hermit Crabs

Gah I am such an idiot *bashes head against wall* I just realised I never once stopped to think about where hermits and liverock come from. I dont want to keep coral as our reefs are being destroyed enough as it is, but never wondered about where everything else comes from. I guess that puts an end to my dreams of a hermit crab. I'm one of those greenie wackos LOl, and am morally against backyard breeding etc. No offence to you guys, but I think I'll give this one a miss.

The second bundle is way more suited. What you need are:

pH
Ammonia
NitrAte
Clacium
Alkalinity
Phosphate
Salinity
Temp

The few times it rains every year, we catch it in the gutters where its then piped down to our 4 tanks, its run through a few filters, to remove anything overly harmful like any leaves caught in the gutters at the time. Theres no added chemicals at all.

Are you putting it through an RO system or massive amounts of carbon, etc. to remove stuff from air pollution? I used to live in rural VA where the rain was so polluted it didn't cause harm if used sparingly for freshwater tanks, but it was really nasty stuff that I would never put in a saltwater system, filtered of particulates or not. I wouldn't trust a lot of rain water for a saltwater tank unless it was put through an RO system or heavy chemical filtration.
