Help

They really are, I enjoy coming home and just watching him for a while and having him swim over to greet me, and watching him sleep in his mountain. :D Makes sense, I think a lot of people just see them as a decoration though instead of living beings which is pretty unfortunate.

get a bottle of melafix, which is very available, not too expensive, gets the job done, take out carbon and cross your fingers.

Hows he looking now mate? Any better or worse? The advice above id say take it :p Could be the saviour :)

not only does it kill fin rot, it works wonders on all injuries. its like God in a bottle

I thought he was looking about the same but then I just took another look and there is an even bigger chunk missing from his fin today

I read a lot of differing ideas on bettafix/melafix and whether it helps or hurts fish. I also saw that it is just for regeneration and not an antibiotic. I'm kind of nervous of buying it, I may just try it out though if he looks worse tomorrow. D=

He still has a bit of fin on the other side of the gap that's hiding in the picture

jeeez! get bettafix asap! (sorry i didn't know theres a bettafix) thats pretty bad. if it gets any worse id put into consideration euthanizing.

You need to bite the bullet and get some melafix seriously mate. Please please take the advice of these guys on here. Hes not getting any better hes looking alot worse. so it can only do good.

Is he eating? is he swimming about?

I hope you can help him mate :) i want too see him happy again :)

He's swimming around a decent amount and he ate again today. He's acting like usual but just less active. I'm going to go get some meds for him tomorrow though since that's the earliest I can get them. I added some aquarium salt until then though so hopefully that will help a bit.

it is a truely beautiful betta

Thank you :D

Today he is looking the same as yesterday, he ate all his food again and is swimming around quite a bit considering. I'll add some more aquarium salt when I change the water today and hopefully someone will be able to drive me to the pet store so I can pick up some meds.
I'm so glad he isn't looking worse at least. :)

Good too hear mate. But if i were you id be getting straight too the LFS for some meds :) Glad to hear hes ok though :)

I have had a very similar problem with my halfmoon betta's fins. I made a thread about it here:

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/345173-bad-case-of-finrot/

Like your betta, his fins are ragged at the end, and strips also come off. People who responded to my thread didn't seem to think it was finrot, and that he was snagging his fins on things in the tank. However, he now has nothing in his tank except the filter - with the intake covered with stocking - the heater, and a lot of live plants. And the problem is still not resolved. I'll really be interested to see if treating for finrot helps your boy. Sorry I can't be more help, but I haven't found a solution yet.

But I must add, there is definitely no need to consider euthanasia just because of his fins. Although my betta's fins are ragged, he is very active, swims all the time, eats well and is in perfect health otherwise.

Good luck :)

I went and checked it out, that's so strange that that happened. Maybe he just got caught in a plant and tried to get out real quick and managed to rip it? I know they have delicate fins but I don't know how likely that would be. I'm thinking my betta caught himself on a plant that I shouldn't have put in the tank and then he got an infection from it, but I really have no idea. :look: I'll let you know how it goes :D So far the salt may have helped out a bit, again I'm not too sure but he didn't have any fin loss today and I originally added the salt yesterday so at least it isn't hurting anything as far as I can tell. I wasn't considering euthanasia at this point, he still has more than half his fins except at the top where it just looks awful, and he's swimming and eating and overall acting normal other than getting tired easier with his lack of fins :( I think he's doing pretty well considering and doesn't seem to be suffering in any way so I'll keep trying to help him out, especially since I saw some betta's with even worse fins and some managed to recover, so I'm hoping for the best :D

Good luck finding out what happened with your betta :D He has amazing colouring by the way
