My local Maidenhead Aquatics is not very good at accurate labelling when it comes to cichlids. This one was labelled as Blue Neon Cichlid. Scientific name anyone?

How about this guy? The one I'd like to ID is the small blue striped character in the foreground.

Next, I'm really stuck with this one (the one to the right of the pic)..... I'm thinking Saulosi but I'm not certain.

How about the fish in the middle here, with blue/brown body and yellow fins......

DSCN1637small.jpg

Finally, this one has me stumped...... I couldn't get a pic with fins extended, but I will try again if that would help...

Many thanks to all for looking, and for especially for all you helpful souls out there who might venture your opinions.....!

Hope I helped out some. (My answers are in the quote in bold)

The first pic looks like a melanochromis interuptus or some sort of elongatus. The 2nd pic is a Metriaclima lombardoi in the 3rd pic i would say the fish is a Iodotropheus sprengerae and the other is a Metriaclima estherae the 4th pic does look like a poor strain of pseudotropheus acei the fith pic is not a greshekie thats the fish in my sig it looks more hap / aulonocara to me but im not to hot with the id`s of them. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that mate. Looking through the list of Pseudotropheus, I now reckon that the first is a Pseodotropheus sp. Elongatus Ruarwe (Elongatus Jewel Spot).

I'm no expert, but I don't think the blue striped one in the second pic looks like a Lombardoi - happy to be corrected though!

Cheers, I'll look through the Aulonocara pics.....

Ah - you are right! Well done.... I was looking at a pic of an adult male apparently, which turns orange.

I think I may have a severe falling out with Maidenhead Aquatics in MOrden because of their inability to label fish properly. Lombardoi was a fish that was on my "Do Not Buy" list because of the reported aggression and size. However when I bought these two they were labelled as Afra, which I felt I could manage.

Thanks again for your help.

Just come across the Aulonocara Stuartgranti (Charo) here. Could this be it? I think perhaps I need a better pic of mine to compare, perhaps with fins extended?

Thanks for comments....

Possibly but i'm not convinced that last one is an Aulonocara, Is the top of the dorsal fin orange or is that just the light?. Yes a pic with extended fins will be a big help. :D

The top edge of the dorsal is definitely orange. I have other pics (no extended finnage) that show this to be the case.

Irf.

Hmm......Does the orange extend onto the top of the fishes head?

Er, kind of. Here is another pic from my archives, taken a few months ago.

You can see that the orange on the dorsal seems to extend slightly onto the top of the head. Other notable features are the distinct yellow "chest" area, red edging to the anal fin, and red spots in the caudal fin.

Some of these features can be better seen in this pic. Although the guy in question is almost off the shot, you can clearly see his yellow chest area, red fringed anal fin and red spots in the tail.

Is that any help?
