i have a beautifully stocked 30gal community tank. Everyone looks happy and healthy. Suddenly at bedtime my opaline gourami was found dead at the bottom of tank. I removed him and tested my water, checked the other fish for anything out of the ordinary. Found nothing, any suggestions??

How long has the tank been set up? How old was the fish? What other fish do you have in there?

Agree with the questions, and what were the numbers on your test results?

If the tank was mature (a year or more old) and the opy was beautiful in the sense of lots of darker greens then it might have died of old age.

tank is 3 mos old, all levels were in check, i rechecked again this morning, he was a larger fish when i purchased him, and his colors were deep, he was housed with a pair of mollies, a pair of platties, a pair of glass fish a dojo loach, 2 frogs, a pair of snail and a pleco. everyone else is doing well this morning

Oh, OK, So he was pretty big and mature when you got him, so he might indeed have had some age.

It normally takes about 2 months to prepare the bacteria before the tank is ready for fish. Since your tank is 3 months old that would mean that either the fish have only been in the tank for a month or that they were present in the tank while it was "cycling."

The reason we ask, in the beginners forum, about what test kit is being used and what the actual numbers are that the test results are giving is because we've found in actual practice that there is huge variation in what beginners are told in shops or get from friends or books and sometimes it is at significant variance with what our experienced fishkeepers have found necessary. Our aim is to help.
