I have 6 rummy nose tetras who have been in the tank for around 2 weeks. I have now added 6 male Gupys to the tank. The rummy nose tetras are chasing my Gupys round the tank and nipping at them. This is forcing them to swim at the too of the tank and one gupy hiding in the corner. Is this normal? I am really worried about the Gupys.

This is not normal. I have rummy noses and they do not chase anything but themselves. Are the guppies much smaller than the rummy noses?

I had a similar experience with guppies. Many tetras can be nippy, and experienced fishkeepers will tell you individual fish may have differing personalities, but it was not with rummy noses. Flowing fins and tails can be quite an attraction to nippers. Are you able to re-house them?

Also, how large is the tank?

Try to remove your tetras, then the guppies. rearrange everything inside the tank and introduce the guppies in first then after a few hours introduce the tetras.

Nipping behavior should not be tolerated and must be stopped by putting some hiding places, lots of plant cover and ample swimming spaces for both species

The tank is 100l and we have just the 12 fish. It seemed to settle down after half an hour and the tetras left the guppies alone. I will keep a close eye on it and re home them if it continues.
