my red male jewel has been for the last 2 days not himself
he has been running into everything and seems a lil off with his stability. ive also noticed while observing him, he has been really pale and i also have a lil red forest jewel who is very white to say from its usual colour. wondering what causes colour loss, possible blindness and off centered swiming(could be from blindness if he is blind?)

could it be that observing them at 1am aint the best time for them? ive been stressed with uni the last couple of days so only observed them late at night

ph 8.0-8.2
amm 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10

colour loss, white coating, and irregular swimming are symptoms of Slime disease, which can be treated with parasite medication and an increased temperature and aeration

same meds as gill fluke? i dont think it is gill fluke but just saw some of the descriptions and id rather treat for it and be safer rather then sorry.
im going to do a water change tommorrow, what meds would u recomend for that and gill fluke?

i have had 2 air stones running off the one air pump and its at 27 degrees so no problems there!

you will probably be best of treating with something that contains either formalin or malachite green,

I would also go a little higher with the temp, most parasites can live quite comfortably upto around 28 but struggle at higher temps, increase the temp to 30C for a few days and see how things go from there.

my cichlids (yellow labs, julidochromis, unkown peacocks and peacocks will be fine at 30?) what bout my 2 pleco's and 2 silver dollars?

what explanation would you have for him swimming around bumping into everything looking almost dumb and like when he runs into stuff it takes him some time befor he figures it out and tries to get around an obstacle. if blindness, what coulda caused this? or is just weakness etc?

actually he had a ram in his mouth the other day, only a small one which i think had died as i didnt know they couldnt tolerate high ph. could he have gotten a spine or anything stuck in his mouth? ive noticed hes had his mouth open all the time now and i can like see inside the tounge or whatever moving up and down as he breaths which seems at a constant rate but not at a rate that would trouble me, where as he only ever opened his mouth when there was blood worm in the tank!

altrhough im just wondering, could the eye film on their eyes bulge out and cause a problem? im not sure if its just me not noticing it befor but there seems to be a clear film over the eye which is bulging more outwards when i look at him front on then i remember

AHHH! ive just found red spots on his lip/mouth, what could this be????

ok his mouth seems a lil obscure and deformed. theres red dots on his lips, like a rash. his left eye seems to be bulging out a fair bit more then his right and his colour is here and there and he sorta lingers and when he swims. he bumps into stuff and takes him a while to take a course of action to get outa the way. anyone???i was thinking bout chuckin half a bottle of pimafix anti bacterial in over the next 2 days see if that does anything. just dont a 50% water change and will do one this arvo. wont get to the LFS till late this arvo!

damn i think its pop eye. how can i treat this???

he's just started swimming more, but hes rolling onto his back and almost like scratching himself on the gravel and my ornamental bell.

any comments would be greatly appreciated as to whats going on

the rolling over seems to be voluntary but not sure!

head down, tail up and rubbing the back of his head along the gravel. occasionally upturns himself!

You have a bad bacteria infection in your tank.
Popeye and septicemia as red dots are septicemia.

Red spots on skin can be caused by:
Regarding the small red dot, small pinprick like haemorrhages (called petechiae) can be due to a local lesion, a generalised septicaemia or toxaemia caused by acute viral and bacterial infections.

How often is the fish flicking and rubbing.
Any excess mucas on the fish.
Check the gills to see if they look pale with excess mucas, or red and inflamed.

hey so im treating right now with melafix and pimafix. question! was it meant to create heaps of bubbles at the surface? well anyway they've dissapeard almost now. i put 1 dose in at 1pm. now 4:24 and he's since last posting, been basically upside down for bout 10hrs now, still seems to be ok though for his condition breathing and fins still moving.

wondering will he be ok at this stage and could he be suffering from some sort of swim bladder problem? ive done an epsom salt bath 3 hrs ago. would it be safe to do anouther one now???? or wait till tommorrow if he's still with us???

i dont think it would matter, he wont eat anything atm is it introduced straight to the main tank? id say probably to late now but atleast im treating the tank to stop any further outbreaks right?

Best to issolate sick fish as septicemia can leak from the fish into the tank causing more fish to get ill.
What your location as I would ditch the melafix and pimafix.
