hi i bought a siamese fighter yesterday and he was perfectly coloured up he was placed in a 60 litre tank at 28 degrees this morning i woke up and checked on him and he has a white growth on his head and there was a small white hole in his anal fin. i can't get anywhere till tommorow but he has gotten even worse now all his fins have brownish purple patches on them and he still has this white growth on his head and he is really tired out and struggling to swim.

please help in any way you can
Daniel

Hi Daniel

A picture would be a great help to try to diagnose what is wrong with your boy.

Also:

What tankmates
What filtration

If he's struggling to swim and there are other fish in the tank then you'll have to remove him. Do you have a breeding net that you could put him into. If not then a tub floating in the tank would do for now, with the water not too deep so he doesn't have to struggle to get to the surface for air.

The white patch could be a fungus but I wouldn't like to say. It would be good to post this in the emergency section too....Wilder may be able to help you with meds etc.

it has an elite stingray 15 and there is 6 very small neons in with him it has a lot of plants but nothing i can see will harm him his fins are in tact just bad coloured im worried about him i don't want to lose another one. i dont know how to re size my pictures to put them in to the reply

If you have photobucket then you can upload your pictures and then copy the IMG codeof your photo onto your reply here.

Tetras aren't the best tankmates for Bettas because they can harrass and nip at their long fins. If he's not well then you really should remove him from the tank or as I mentioned before float him in a plastic tub in the water. That way he will keep warm too.

i dont have photobucket how do i get that. he is in a breeding trap just now he is away from everyone else now. hes swimming but still feeling sorry for himself. if i can i will try to get a picture on somehow.
thanks alot

That's good that he's separated now :good: You don't want the Neons making him worse!!!

To register for photobucket just go to

www.photobucket.com

then you can upload any pics from your computer

Hi, beginner to fish,
I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles with your fish.
But if that is a fungus, and progressing that quickl...
If you're posting in the Emergencies section, and if you have a test kit, they'd like to know what the water perameters are, especially ammonia and nitrites, how often water changes are conducted, things like that.
It would be good to have these in the initial post, if possible.

Did you lose the last fish to something similar, and is the fish now in the same tank without it being sterilized?

Is he being blown against by the filter and becoming exhausted, as Netty asked?
If he's spent his life in a little cup, he won't have swim muscles - I had one that could barely make the surface and had to be provided with an upside-down floating (clean, never-soaped) icecream pail as a platform, until he could swim properly - and he's fine now.
Stress can cause colour change - and being in a warm tank after an unheated cup can make natural colours appear very rapidly.
Do you think the neons could be picking at him?
Very often the shock of being moved will lower the fish's ability to fight a disease which may have been present but not obvious until later.
There are so many potential issues - more information would be so helpful to the experts such as Netty (I'm NOT one) in identifying the likely problem.
I hope the little guy will be OK, and I'm sure he will be.
Hang in there.

ok he is separated and is relaxing as far as i can see he is just resting at the bottom of the breeding tank

my ph is 6.0
my ammonia is 0-0.25
my nitrites 0 and my nitrates 0

Although very low....any trace of ammonia is best avoided by regular water changes.

I've pm'd you my email if it's easier for you to get the photo on that way :good:

With any problem it's vitally important that the Betta's water is very very clean to help their recovery.

Ok here are Daniels' pics of his Betta

I wouldn't move him again Daniel in case he contaminates your other tank.

ok he is now lying at the botton of the breeding tank upright he seems very ill but as far as i can see he is still alive. is there any treatment i should get tommorow for him or anything i can do.

Where the white patch is.....does it look fluffy or like bleaching under the skin. Is there any redness to the patch. Also has he been flicking or rubbing himself against things in the tank.?

it is like a small bit of wool on his head i think it could be a fungus its next to his eye there is no redness or anything like that. but he has gone a lot paler now aswell. he was bright electric blue when i got him and now you can see from the pictures he is completely different is it normal to happen so quick.
