HITH can be an autoimmune disorder triggered by stress, so i agree it is definitely very important to ask many questions to help figure out the cause of the problem- it is worse to assume than to ask. For the mean time i would recommend doing regular small (like 15-20%) water changes with dechlorinator and treating the tank with an anti external bacterial medication like Pimafix (better than Melafix) to help prevent secondary infection setting into the wound (which could prove lethal if it did).
