Help Me Stock My 180 Gallon Tank

After searching for ages, I've found someone who lives ten minutes from my doorstep who is giving away a 6 foot fish tank! So how do I stock it? I had planned to do a cichlid tank but i want to keep the fish I currently have in my tiny 15g.

They are: x 2 Kribensis (and two little baby ones!)
x7 Khuli loach
x2 Tiger barbs
x1 Blue Male Gourami
x1 Green BN
x1 RTBS

So I was thinking perhaps up the tigers to about 30? Have like, different colour morphs; the green and gold variety for a nice schooling effect? Add a couple of female blue gouramis and maybe another 6 or so khulis, but after that im stuck. What else would fit in with this tank?

Wow fantastic!

Your plan sounds good and certainly viable to up the schools and increase current fish but I would leave the Khuli loaches in the 15g as they could potentially limit your options with the other larger fish you could add where as the other fish wont.

When you say cichlids did you mean africans or americans? I would go for americans and go for things like Firemouths, Ellioti, Rainbow cichlids, Blue Acara, Severums, Chocolate cichlids - the list goes on

Might be difficult because of your current stock.. I agree with increasing the Barb numbers to 30 and Khuli to 15 or so. Maybe 3 female Gourami and another male? (I am assuming that they're Dwarf Gouramis.) Get the plecos to 1m and 2-3f of the same species? What about another couple of Kribs and a pair or two of Bolivian Rams? Of course, you would need to make sure that there are enough territories for all.

Hey thanks for the replies. Wills, could i have those american cichlids in with my current stock, excluding the khulis? Wont the khulis be fine and just hide away in the sand and under the rocks anyway? Theyre also nocturnal.

Are there any other schooling fish i could have in this tank?

Yes, you can keep many Tetras, Barbs, Rasboras, Corys and so on..

The blue gourami is a bit of an annomoly with some of them but it should be fine over all. The other fish in your tank are commonly kept with these larger cichlids. The tiger barbs will act as good target/dither fish with them and in a large enough school will for one look stunning but for two keep all the nippyness between the school rather than the tank mates.

Bad news guys I still live with my mum and shes put her foot down and isnt letting me have the tank So gutted! She doesnt seem to understand how much one of these costs new. Its such a massive shame.

I live on the edge of twerton near oldfield park kat. (Which is also a bit meh )

Tell your mum just how much that tank is worth (we're talking hundreds, even second hand) and that it is a worthy investment, and you will store it out of her way.

She's a fool to pass up on that.

Otherwise, i'd #41#### well suggest you pick it up anyway and go "oh well, it's here now...."
