Im looking for aquarium rocks/sandstone for my Frontosa's set up, I dont want pebble shaped pieces, as they arent stable enough for my liking piled up, but more like long 6-7" upwards, 1-2" think sandstone or similar, Ive been round pretty much every DIY place, garden centre in my area, cant find any in local LFS, looked on ebay but they seem to be sharp edged pieces that come in small sizes which arent alot of use, I need smooth edged thick pieces, anyone know of a web site to get these??

I know abit of a distance from you hun but have you tried shirley aquatics, they usually have sand stone amongst alot of other different kinds. Both large and small pieces so might be worth a look :)

any on this list? http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=414_11_239

zebra stone seems fairly good, or petrified wood, not really sharp, just dont go for the mini landscape rock

To help people understand what it is Im looking for, Ive borrowed this pic of Mod DThoffsetts' set up posted in the African Cichlid journal section of the board, hope thats ok Dthoffsett?

Not sure entirely its actually sand stone, but thats the size/shape of stuff Im looking for.

Shirley is a little far, but if they have anything like that MrJake, I will surely drive on over :) Let me know.

Ill have a pop down the weekend hun and have a look, they have had it in the past becasue ive been tempted to get some myself but will have a look and see if they still have now for you :)

Not exactly what you are after but they could be stacked.... :good:

Thanks 1st ones look ok, but the second are slate and I cant use slate in Frontosa tanks apparently as it has too sharp edges which they could hurt themselves on, but thanks for the link.

I would to take you on a walk around here where I live. I just go down to the lake and find my rocks all shape and sizes. I stack them at the beach so i get an idea of what I have to work with.

I'm sure you could find your own rocks. Just scrub them off with HOT water then let dry. Don't take any from places were they might have been exposed to oil gas or chemicals. You should be ok.

if you lived in the USA I could ship you some. But to send rocks to the UK might be expenses.

Are you switching over to African ?

Make your own rocks... get some cement or something make a big chunk then you can carve it out add holes or whatever.

Here is a link on how to make fake rocks.

On another forum someone in TX sells Holey Rocks.

look for Holey rocks I always see them in African setups.

I have a stream by the back of my house, but they are only like large cobbles and its not what I want, they dont stack very well and Im concerend they will be knocked over and crack the glass (although the fronts are only small at the moment, at 14"+ they can shift a lot of weight), but thanks for the idea, Ive always taken rocks from the stream before but just to place them in, not to stack.

Not switching completely to African, still keeping my large severum, with the fronts for now, although Ive completely fallen in love with them, so may get my Sev a tank all to himself at a later date.

Look into paver size Mexican pebbles. They look like a large round rock that has been seriously squished; http://stoneyard.smugmug.com/photos/355021070_RrzEn-O.jpg

They look good Tolak, thanks. I have however, gone out today and found some rocks I was happy with and have now rescaped the tank, pics in the photo section if anyone is interested. Thanks for all the suggestions and MrJake, you dont have to go to Shirley especially for me now - although I no, you dont need an excuse :p

I have a beach full of that stuff. And Stuff like it, and we live in a natural cleanish water so its great. :look:
