Hello my x-ray is having babies again right now i have 1 female 1 male and 2 babies they had 2 months ago but now she just gave birth to 3 and more are coming i need to know what i can do because ive taken care of the other 2 babies but there more and i need to know what i can do to care for all of these because she just popped out the 4th one and i don't have a lot of room in the tank so someone please tell me because i have not gotten my new tank im getting up we have to build a she but at the moment they are cramped in the tank

x-ray...catfish? Tetra? What I suggest is you get a smaller tank and set it up a a nursery for the babies.

Ok, after looking at your profile, they are stingrays. Best bet is once they are feeding well, take them to your local fish store for trade or sale them.

if its motoro take the pups out fast or the male may eat them

once rays start having the pups its normally over fast within `/2 hour she wont normally have anymore after the 1st hour

if the pups still have yolk sacks im sorry to say you stand 0 chance of keeping them alive for more than 72 hours even if the rays are perfectly formed the yolk sack is what they feed on and if its still attached the water poisions them throw the yolk

they probably wont feed for 48 hours as they are born fat then you need to get them feeding fast and feed twice per day as they go down hill fast without food

you shouldnt take them out of the main tank but put a divider in as the slightest change in water parameters can kill

you need to do a big water change after birth 50% at which point the male may breed with the female again but keep a eye on the temp

im shocked no one told you to PM me

i hope that helps

do you know what type they are?

what size are the parents?

if you cant keep them, which i doubt you can in a 55g then get them feeding and feeding well. they will need to feed at least 2x per day with a mixture of foods. normally after 2-3 months if all is well and the rays are feeding still then its a good time to move them on either to a shop or privately.

rays are not a cheap fish to buy so please be sure they are healthy before passing them on.

do you have any pics of the set up and pups etc?

mmmmmm 55gal and breeding rays in a tank that size very strange and he has not returned to read the advice

even the smalest rays hystrix or scobina would have problems getting to adult breeding size in a 55 gal

on a side note, x-ray/glass catfish don't breed in captivity. so if she wasn't talking about stingrays, it woulda been safe to assume she meant x-ray tetras or just those brackish glass fish.

That's why I looked at his profile. I'm thinking auto correct spelled X-ray.

well as the thread starter never returned we will never know

but if its the fish you are talking about if sure they would have more than 2 babys at a time as thats what he/she stated happened 2 months ago

The OP is no longer a member of the forum, so we'll never know what situation his fish and tanks are truely in.
