Hi. I've had my tropical 125 lt tank set up for about a year now and over the last few months I've planted the tank and added co2 . I had a problem with black hair algae but since I've planted up it seems to be disappearing .
I got the water tested and everything seemed fine but the nitrates ,so I done a few large water changes and give the filter a good clean in old tank water.

Here's my real problems .The inside of my lid has what looks to me as small orange mites and thread like worms which you wouldn't even notice if the light didnt hit them. They only seem to stay on the parts where the condensation sits. Ive cleaned them off twice and let it go for a few weeks to see did they come which they did. I'm wondering as I got some of these plants from Malaysia did they come from them.

Also regarding my fish ,I had a baby clown loach that seemed to like to munch on my silver gourami so I got rid of him. Now the gourami has what looks like scales missing and sore marks all over his body. I've had various unexplained deaths over this last while

I've been doing water changes ,cut back on feeding and basically came to the end of my teather.

I put a lot of time and money into getting this tank looking nice but I'm now thinking of tearing it all down but before I do could anyone shed some light on this situation.

Hi... what we need here to help you out is a FULL set of water test results, IE; Ammonia, NitrIte and NitrAte...stating that your results 'seem fine' isn't enough to get the answers you are looking for. Every fishkeeper should have their own water test kit, so if you haven't already, i strongly suggest you invest in a liquid based test kit, something like an API Master Test kit, which can be found on eBay or Amazon for around £20.
Good luck :good:

Terry.

sound like you have insect lava infestation which may possibly be from you plants or a native insect. if one of the worm like cretins are knocked in to the water do they sink and move like a slug. or do they dance about like a blood worm?

Hi terry. I know I'm gonna get abuse from this but I don't own a testing kit but my brother in law has the liquid type. I'll get it of him tonight and do a full set of tests.

They are clear so if they had fallen into the water I couldn't see them. They really are less than a hairs breadth .you have to tilt the lid for the light to catch them even to see them.

I have and it doesn't look like any of them.
I looked at pics of planaria .i don't think it them either
