 Hope I'm in the correct sub forum here? My son got some little baby fish from a friend of his and he doesn't know what they are called. They have grown quite big now and they have had babies of their own, just today. They are livebearing fish, Mum and Dad are grey in colour with black stripes and a darker grey face. They are very protective of their babies, hunting away any other fish that come near. Any ideas as to what they would be? I've googled for them and come up with nothing!

Thankyou

To be honest ther are many livebearers.

But the common ones are guppies, endlers, molly's sword tail's and platies. of which their are many photo's on this site.

If i had the time to find a pic of each and post it i would, but best thing is to earch the names listed above and see what pics u can find here.
Or want look's close it them.

Of course the best thing is to get a photo and post it, this will allow us to help.

While they aren’t livebearers it really sounds like you’re describing convicts. Look here and let us know. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=60086

If so you should head over to the cichlid section. :)

I can’t think of any livebearers that are really protective of their fry off the top of my head. But I’m only very familiar with the common ones. :)

Thankyou for your help. This is exactly what they are, Convicts. We didn't even notice the eggs. Thankyou so much. I'll check out the Cichlid Section.
