Help Id This Fish

Hello All,

I received quite a surprise the other day when I got into work and looked at the fish tank; my boss had decided to add a new species over the weekend. He can't remember what kind they are, only that 'the guy said they'll eat algae'. I have no idea what they are, what kind of water parameters they need, how big/aggressive they will get, etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

As BethK wrote, I believe they are Garra flavatra.

Native to old Burma (Myanmar), they prefer a decent current in the tank (thing stream flow, which won't suit some fish); moderately hard water with neutral to slight alkaline pH; mid 20s temps. They are territorial with each other but are passive to other species (although their turn of speed might freak out slow fish), so you either keep a single specimen or 3-6 (depending on tank size... My three in a 4-footer often chase each other around, but fighting never really results in any physical damage). Provide a cave of some sort for each one, plant pots work fine. Food wise, they are omnivores, they do enjoy some algae but they will need meaty food too (mine happily eat Tetra Prima Discus and Tetra omnivore mini-wafers). Size wise, about 7cm is typical.
