My guppies (females) gills seem reddish behind. the gills come out rather far and they seem to be gasping at the top. What could this be?

Have you checked your water stat levels? If the ammonia/nitrite levels are high it can cause inflammation of the gills and the fish will gasp for air at the top. You might want to do a 50% water change (if you haven't done one already). Then monitor the fish and see if they improve.

still have red gills but they aren't gasping at the top
