Help! Darth Is Ill :(

Lol. i love travelling but I really hate leaving my fishies :S I'll update as soon as Darth does a poo - if he manages it that it!

No poo and more fungus today. I put him to sleep again and removed the fungus from his anus, and he has woken up. Don't know what else to do......

Tibby you have done your best for him and I take my hat off to you.
I think it just comes to a stage when you say enough is enough.
Dosn't sound like he making any progress.
I would think of maybe ending his life before you go away so it dosn't have to suffer while you are away if he goes further downhill.

I'm not sure I can do it. He is much perkier these last few days and he is such a fighter I just don't know if I could euthanize him unless he gets worse :( It's a tough call, and I'll have to have a good think about it. I do hate the thought of not being here whilst he is suffering....

I know its an awful dicision you have to make.
I do hope he does gets better, but he dosn't sound like he making any progress.
How long is it now since he went to the toilet.

I have no idea, he had the fungus there for w hile now and he still looks like he has eaten too many bloodworms. I have been thinking about it and unless there is a definite improvement by Saturday then I am going to put him to sleep. i am kidding myself in saying he might be OK I think as all he does is rest and occasionally go up for air :(

Not a vet but it sounds like he not making any improvement.
Once you been treating a while and no improvement not good news.
All there left is antibiotics and that could be to late.

I would give him abit more time till you go away.
If no improvement I would maybe think of ending it for him, rather than him be really poorly while you are away.
Sorry bless him.

Thanks wilder. You are always such a support :)
I fed him some juicy bloodworms before and he went mad for them! And he does seem a little livelier since.... oh I don't know what to do, I will decide on Saturday for sure.

Give yourself and him a few more days bless him.
Not and easy dicision to make and I wouldn't do the awful deed if you are unsure as you would never forgive yourself.
Always that nagging feeling did I do the right thing.

argh I know. I keep swinging between saying its for the best to put him to sleep, and then thinking, but what if he still has a chance? i mean, its not much of a life, resting then breathing then resting again, but he is still eating and responding to me so I really don't know,.... and to tell you the truth I am not sure I could put him to sleep for good. When I put him to sleep to try to remove the fungus he went a bit mad until his eyes closed and even then he kept waking momentarily!

me n Darth have made a pact. (Yes, I am a little strange in the head these days!) I am gonna leave him be and he is gonna try his best to improve. If he dies then at least we both tried. He doesn't seem to be in any distress, just tired. And he does eat as much as you give him. Maybe he has a tumour?? His belly is distended but only so much as you would expect from a greedy fish who had pigged out on bloodworms. he's not back to full colour but he is black again. His anal fin is torn up but the rest of him seems fine. I am gonna water change tomorrow before I go on holiday and redose him with anti internal bacteria meds and pimafix and then leave him to it. Unless he suddenly gets a lot worse, I just can't do it, I would always be wondering if I had done the right thing.

What a dilema  It's always difficult making that decision. We had a lovely dragon girl that was sickly from the time we had her. We battled for months to get her healthy and in the end she was just too weak and died anyway. I sometimes wonder whether we put her through more than was necessary but at the time we just wanted to do everything we could to help her get better.

Good luck and I'm sure you'll do what's best for Darth even if it does mean putting him to sleep. Big hugs xxx

Today his belly is looking smaller. no idea if he has pooped or not as he has a snail friend in the tank who is rather messy :) He seems happy and is eating. Changed the water and added fresh meds. He will take his chances whilst I am away, I can't put him to sleep when he is still darting up to dance for food. Wish him luck! I go away very early tomorrow morning :)
