Now that you have raised the issue of the light...I would doubt this killed the cory. I would agree that they might be "spooked" by the change.

The problem with so much of the LED lighting is that is has insufficient red in the wavelengths. More blue than is needed, but if this were balanced by the red and green it would be better. I have tried several units and they all went back.

Your plants may well weaken under the LED. Aquatic plants need red and blue light to drive photosynthesis, but the red is slightly more important. Without it, plants will struggle, and algae will have the advantage. This is why very cool (more blue in the mix, less red) white can promote algae.

From the two photos I don't know that the LED is brighter (more intense) than the former. It is the spectrum I would most worry about.
