I noticed that his attitude changed yesterday morning and he wasn't as active like he usually is. Just today, I noticed that his belly is swollen and his scales are protruding. I don't know if it's too late but I know that he has dropsy because of the raised scales. Is there still hope? I mean, he just started to swell today! Does anyone think he'll make it another day until I can go buy medicine?! I really don't want him to die! I always hated fish but he's the first betta that I got for a pet and now I'm really loving him... I need feedback!!! I don't want my Angel to die...!!!!!!!!

:-(

search these forums for old dropsy posts. lOOK at the recommendations. do not feed him incase it is due to bloat or constipation. i know a salt bath helps but i do not know the proportions...do not use table salt...AQUARIUM OR EPSOMis ok, but get a recipe for dropsy, as i said, i do not know the recipe... look up salt baths...Tomorrow, get a broad spectrum antibiotic...sometimes dropsy is caused by internal parasites (although sometimes dou to kidney failure, in which case, there is NO hope and euthanasia with clove oil is recommended- but there is no way to tell which one he has to try treatment first!!!!!)....i hope he pulls through...i grew quite attached to two rescues- not even necessarily WANTING a betta...they just found me. GOOD LUCK and keep posted to treatment and his condition.

Thanks! I'll try the Epsom salt first because I heard it works rapidly. I just hope he pulls through. Like I said before, I used to hate fish, especially Betta's! But, I got him on Valentines day and he's such a gorgeous, all-white, crown-tail male that I grew to love... I'll keep you posted if anything else happens!

Epson salt baths, and a bacterial med if you can issolate the sick fish.
Once scales stick out organ failure, so good luck.
