Hello, Newbie With Questions And Some Issues

first of all im new here so hello to everyone, im Marc.

i have a 120l planted tank, which has been in place for about 6 months now, 1 month fishless cycle the rest with fish.
i know (since mainly reading on here afterwards!) that some of the numbers and species i have may be troublesome, but unfortunately this i learned after getting incorrect advise from a fish shop etc.
anyway...
i have:
1x betta (blue male)
5x guppy (small but fancy tails)
7x neon tetra
2x penguin tetra
2x molly
2x platys
1x ancistrous

so everything except the 2x platys have been in since after the cycle, the 2x platys is where the questions and trouble begins. they were bought last saturday, and the next day noticed i noticed a few white spots on their tails, one flicks / rubs things occasionally. so i have read up on here, and found that:
1. im probably at max stock or a little over
2. the betta is not strictly compatible with the tetra, mollys or guppys (although things have been fine so far, bar the occasional flare)
3. the platys probably have white spot

SO... i have treat with 50% dose of interpet aniti white spot, as wasnt sure about the betta or ancistrous.. so far 1 day gone under treatment and everyone is still ok, just waiting for white spots to disappear.

and finally my questions! do you think half dose was wise given my fish, and do you think it will get rid of the white spot or will i have to re-dose at half again to make full dose?

hi, i am new here so i will just tell you about my experience. I had my fish for two weeks before my red tail shark got white blotches over him. I treated him with interpet anti-slime and velvet as i noticed it treated ich too and wasnt 100% that it was ich. Anyhow it worked, i treated the full dose what it recommended on the bottle, took out the carbon filter, did a water change a week later and redosed again. The patches took about 6 days to go but none of the other fish in the tank were affected so mine was a success. good luck.

tthanks, i was just worried about the betta and ancistrous with the treatment. i might do a slight water change and introduce the other 50% dose, dont want it spreading and getting to the others

Ich is often treated by heat alone without medication by fishkeeper, due to some fish species being very sensitive to what are often toxic fish medications...

Raise your heater temp to at least 84F (29C), provide extra aeration (to allow for lower oxygen saturation with warmer temp, even it simply means lowering the water level so that filter still works but creates more "splash"), do not lower the tamp for at least 14 days.

This "extreme" heat kills the spore stage of Ich, with you could siphon off the gravel, only adding water of at least the same temp.

i have already raised to 26 degrees from what someone else said somwhere on here, is that not hight enough? is 29 safe with the species i have listed?

hello again, well i have had the 50% treatment in for these first few days, today the whote spots have gone (may be just spores now?)

another issue has arisen though, since doing this and raising the temp to 26/27C my betta's fins have started showing signs of almost see through patches, like holes are going to soon appear!

should i now water change and treat the tank with aqua plus and put the carbon filter back in / replace with new.... although i keep reading people with plants dont usually bother with one?

please help information overload is is setting in and everything i keep doig seems to have side effects
