Hi. As you know my mollie is heavly pregnant and not long off. Thing is the male mollie is continously chasing her and nudging her underside to breed, he isnt letting up and im worried it will stress/exhaust her :(

I dont have a spare tank at the moment as i put the ram in there incase there was some sort of disease, didnt want it spreading.

Should I be worrying? What can i do??

you should keep mollies in a ration of 2-3 females to one male,
this spreads the p4stering around.
also mae sure you have plenty of places for her to hide, lots of plants and caves

If there are no signs of disease, the Ram does not need to be separated. If you are just being careful for the success of the fry, you really shouldn't have to do that. Really a pregnant female should have her own tank to birth in if you can provide it.

Hi Thanks. Sompne told me tog get more females but due to the ram problem and worrying if it may of been disease I wanted to be careful and also not add to many fish in one go as I had recently added some. I didnt know at the time about the ratio of mollies so my next fish were to be 2 more females, just wanted to make sure the tank was clear.

The ram has been ok and back to normal self, should I wait a bit longer before adding him back into main tank to be safe?

I have plenty of plants, caves and even plant pot caves but she chooses not to use them often, Ive only seen her use a specific one at night time and she retreats in there on her own then.

I would buy a net breeder and put her in that, inside the same tank as the male. That shouldn't stress her out any more than the male would.

Hi, I have a breeder net and put her in it last night to give her a break. She actauly seemed relieved for the break. Thing is I let her into main tank again this morning as im worried how long is ok to keep her in there. I havent a clue when the fry are going to be born, what if it were days away. Is there any signs she will show when she is ready or very very near?

I have freed up the hospital tank now and was all ready to put her in, but the filter is powerful in there and though she could handle it the fry wouldnt. There is no valve to turn filter down either.

So how long would she be ok tpp be in a breeders net?? She did seem to enjoy the peace and wasnt stressing out in there.

Oh forgot to add. I got another female mollie today, only had 1 left. Thing is the male isnt interested at all lol and the Ram has took a shine to her and there paired up, he follows her all over. Was hoping the new mollie would divert some attention of this one, but not as yet.

It's not good to put the molly in the net then take her out, over and over again. That stresses her out more than the male would. I would just put her in there and wait till she has the babies, it's ok to keep her in there from the time you can tell she's pregnant till she drops the fry, just don't leave her in there forever. =]
