Just starting up a 150 litre tank, ive had it made for me without a lid but has a light unit that clips on to the sides, the issue that i am having is that the water is looseing its heat and that it will get to 22oc and will not get any higher, i want it to reach 25.5 or 26oC. Can anyone advise me on what i can do? because i do not want a lid for the tank, dimensions are 36x12x21 and i have an external filter that circulates the water very well. Also i have a 150watt heater which says on the box suitable for tanks between 155 - 225 litres.

Help would be much appreciated, thanks

Well I've got a 165 litre tank running a 200 watt heater I got told always run a heater that's a little more powerful than required.

Depends a whole lot on how cold and dry the room that it's in is. A cold, dry room will cause a fair amount of evaporative heat loss and you'll need a bigger heater (and more top offs), a warm, damp room will barely need a heater at all and will be fine without a lid.

I use two 300w heaters on my 260L. A) Because I never have the heating on in the house and it's in a colder room and B) If one was to break, I'd have the other one as some sort of back up to keep the water reasonably warm!

Two can be beneficial in more than one way! :D

Similarly I have two 150W heaters in my 250l tank. They're rarely on, but the room is warm (the house is heated by an eco thingamibob that works better on constant mode) and the tank is surrounded by a huge heatsink (it's in an alcove in a 2 foot thick solid stone wall).

Ive just ordered a 300watt for my 155L tank, I just followed the instructions on the site I ordered from.. (below)

Interpets new Deltatherm 300watt heater
suitable for aquarium length 48'' (or 122cm) 30-60 gallons (or 135-270ltrs)

Will this be an issue? or simply a cheap heater that requires more power?

Interpet is quite a reliable brand as far as I'm aware.

Best bet is to just try it and see. It's like £23 or something right? We sell them at my work place and never had any complaints so give it a shot

I managed to get it for £15 online :) still waiting on it arriving though so hopefully both website and heater are reliable ;) Will update if any big problems but I don't see how too much power would be a problem :) any links to a heater guard? had a look around but couldn't see any. Thanks!

Universal one, I use this one on one of mine. Easy assembly. Click, twist and go!

I run inline heaters in all my tanks. Since the water is heated to the proper temp before it even hits the tank, I would think this would solve your problem.

would that be a hydor in line heater?
thinking about running one of these.

thanks
