Heater Trouble

If i was to turn my heater on out of the water will it break? I need to find out if its actually working at all?

The instructions with mine say not to turn on unless the water is up to a minimum line. Air heats faster than water meaning it could overheat. To test it, why not stick it in a jug/bowl of water?

Thanks, Ive got a jewel tank and the heater is enclosed by the filter part so turned it all off got heater out so i could touch it in the water and it is hot

dont understand why it never makes the water warmer

I have that problem at the minute - I am going to leave it for a couple of days out of the filter (next to it) as it might spread the heat more - and if it does not walm it up I would advise to either turn it up/get a new heater/more powerful one.

Oh right i have turned it up for now just to see if it makes a difference, might take it out of the filter like you have for a bit and see if it helps.
