How many hours a day do I keep on the heater and how many watts is enough for a 14 gallon tank and is it okay if I go a couple watts over

24 hours a day, obviously it's not working 24 hours a day, in the summer 2-4 hours is normal, 50 Watts should be sufficient for a 14 Gallon and yes a few Watt's her nor there really doesn't matter.

a 50watt will work fine, and it should be plugged in all the time, it will go on/off when needed

hi m8,

a 50w heater should be fine for your 10g tank. a really basic way of working it out is that it is 1w to every litre.

Okay so 40 or 50 watts for the 10 gallon should be fine right

yeah...go for the 50w to be on the safe side. i always work in litres...sorry. i looked up a convertion calculator and it came out at 40something litres so will need to be a 50w. think they mostly come in 25/50/100/200w anyway so go for a 50w.
