Heater Problem

You cn get a chock block from any hardware store of enlighten for the cable to fit Into, all that is, is a blastocyst block with screws looks like a Lego block you screw in one cable in one end and the other ye other end, should cost to much Oi can do this for all cables if needed try not to cut the cable at the plug just unscrew the plug and unscrew the cable

We use this method in my job
For signal cable but can be used for power , there not waterproof but a plastic back with tape either end is gd enough :)

I shall try and get a link for a chock bock :)

Whoa, I am an electrician & I would not use choc block anywhere near a source of water. As for using tape to make it safe, I hope that you are kidding. I am sure you mean well but this is bad advice.

+1, Conti block and water? Ouch

Get a water proof connector block, and even then i would wipe a bit of silicone around the seal as i put it together.

well it works for us in the military :) use it all the time mostly for signalling like telephone signals and comm's work but we have used power before 3 phase and normal 240v but ye plastic bag is temp solution but u can get a waterproof case for it as a permanent one only like 20£ from a gd hardware store :) just don't submerge the thing in water you will be okay :D

I didnt say it wouldnt work, I said it is a bad idea, of course it will work but you may end up burning the house down. Kudos on you for being in the military, much respect on that, but you cant bring military methods into a domestic enviroment.
Crimps & shrink sleeve is the way to go.

You would be suprised how much of the military is already in your house ;) Many of the things we use as everyday items today were born of necessity on a battlefield many years ago...

I've electrical qualifications myself and i wouldnt consider extending them. All my heater leads have been more than long enough, you must have some freakish kinda setup :)

TBH, my 300w could do with being a foot longer... :( I only have power into one of the cupaboards under the fish tank suppling an 8way surge protector. The lead for the filter in the other cupboard is just trailed behind. As the heater is in the middle of the tank and a rough 45' angle, its a bit of a stretch.

the cable length on my heater is rubbish too. It's had to go in the tank vertical with the valve for altering the temp sticking out the top of the water. I've had to plug in a 3 way extention, parcially tape it to the back of the tank stand and even then the wire is only just long enough. My tank is only 12 inch in depth. You would think they'd make the cable longer.

I'll need a new heater if I get a bigger tank so I'll be checking for cable length before I buy

Ive managed to put them both at 45 and just got enough lenght to reach. But the wire is very very tight.
