With my new tank (Fluval Roma 125) I get a free heater. It's the Fluval Mirrored M Series Heater 150watt.

What are people's experiences with it? Is it good? Is that the right wattage? The heater I have now (name escapes me, begins with 'J') is brilliant and has never let me down so if the Fluval M Series has any bad reports, I'll just get a new J one.

M seiries is fine never had problems with them.
As minnt said e seiries is a nightmare

I have an E300 in my 300l and have never had any issues with it. It keeps the water at 24-25 and has done so for well over a year. Have you guys had problems with them or something?

I have a fluval M series in my Roma 240 - no problems and looks good as well.

I've heard bad things about the fluval m series heaters. Lots of stories of them cracking, exploding, or the temperatures being out of balance, etc. But then again, I've never heard of a perfect heater. All of the heaters and companies pump out the occasional dysfunctional heater.

I have an E50 and so far no problems with it. And the thermostat is accurate to within less than half a degree. That's good enough for me.

A lot of members had issues with the E series heaters displaying 'low flow' even when next to the filter outlet.

Jager was the name I was looking for. Was recommended to me on here a couple of years ago and has been a brilliant heater.

But if you all think the M series is ok then I'll use it. It is free after all lol. 150watt ok?

I have 150watt in my 240 litre - no problems at all - you should be fine.

Jager are made by eheim. Great heaters.

1w per litre is recomended. Any less and its working overtime so in theory could wear out quicker.

I've had Juwel; Rena Smartheaters and Visitherm over the last two years or so...

The Juwels always underheated (30C setting would just about manage 25C on a good day). I think my 50W one is on the way out after 2 years, but in fairness it has spent most of its life in my 130l 620T, far less than the 1W per litre advice.

The Renas overheated (20C would do 23C on a bad day, even using the connector kit to use the heater as the intake strainer of my Eheim 2078 filter, plus one of them failed just a few days befoe Xmas last year)

The Visitherms have been good, the dial gives very close real world temps. When examining the first two, I managed to shear the external adjustment knob, but after thorough testing to ensure it was still watertight I still use it today and a flat-headed screwdriver can adjust the temp setting! Plus the supplied heatguards are great for protecting silly fish that love to cling to objects, I have at least a couple of Synodontis nigriventris with heater burns from the Juwels!
