I have a fish that just sits there. He doesn't gasp for air he just sits beneath the surface. He eats when he's fed. He poo's. He has no outward signs of illness other than lethargy and laziness. He flares when he's shown a mirror or another male. I was going to give him to my sister for her 8 gallon, but I'm not sure if he's going to die soon. He's just so bloody miserable!

could try internal meds. But have you got another tank you can try him in. Jaffa's a fussy so and so and there are two tanks he's been in tha t he seems to hate and just sits. The hexaganol hospital tank he zips round and he's now in a curved fronted one which he loves,,, the two rectangle he's been in he hates.....most odd, fussy little ***

try rearanging his tank to give him something new to look at. but I would just be on the lookout for some sort of health issue.

I nearly brought a ‘lazy’ betta today.
The most attractive thing you could every imagine, marble, a cross of some sort, and big as hell, mistook him for a giant. But he didn’t more, at all. Just sat on a bunch of leaves until a mirror was put in front of him. Must just be the temperament/personality. No?

Sounds like a typical man! :hyper:

My boy is the same, he is just a lazy a**e. He is active only at feeding time and when faced with his reflection in a mirror. He is also completely uninterested in the tanks inhabitants (a trio of guppies) so much so, I'm contemplating permanantly removing the partition.

I have had lazy bettas before it's just a bit upsetting to see him do nothing. I know all the signs and he doesn't show any of being ill at all. His colour is good his belly isn't big etc. maybe he'll perk up when he goes to live with my sister's other fish.

Eric ourBetta was 'lazy' when we first got him. We left him like that for a few days as he was eating and flaring etc. but he just didn't look happy, similar to yours.

We gave him internal meds, and within 2 days he was a new fish!! Never looked back! :)

Just a thought (being a Betta novice) Water temperature ok?

Yes his temp is 80 as all my fishies
But check this out
I been in my room all evening after a row with hubby and I just popped down to the kitchen for a drink lights had been off and as I turned them on I spotted him having a good old swim about and an explore, then soon as he noticed me and the lights he resumed his still, sulking position. Is he mugging me off OR WHAT?!

Jaffa was the same for a week,, he wouldn't even eat and he really looked at deaths door , but the internal meds made a tremendous difference.
