and if you give up youl probably quit the forum, see something that reminds you of your darling oscars in a month or two and sign back up again..... Just think of all those posts that youll hav to do to catch up again. Stay at it girl! Look at all the friends you have behind you backing you all the way. I think your kids have too much faith in their mum for you to just go and give up!

I know I'm a little late to try and cheer you up, but I figure I may as well throw in my two cents. I rarely (if ever) check in on these forums anymore, but you seem to be a good, responsible fishkeeper who knows her stuff, who just made a simple mistake. In the all-too-quick 2 years or so I've been serious about fishkeeping, I've...
• Overmedicated
• Undermedicated
• Mixed fish too big with fish too small
• Caused tank-obliterating Ph swings
• Put fish in terribly small aquariums
• Cross-contaminated sick aquariums with healthy ones
• Used all too many feeder (apologies for the f-word) fish
• Accidentaly got a ropefish to choke to death on a feeder guppy
• Killed angelfish, tetras and bettas galore with "bad driftwood syndrome"
All of which and more led to belly-up pets. I've killed more fish than most Bait Shops. My friends all think I'm silly for being sad over the death of a fish, but they truly become equal to a cat or dog in the sense that they recognize their owner, and at least show what we percieve as excitement when we go up to their little homes. I know exactly how you feel. All you can really do is ride out the sadness and learn from your mistakes.

thanks so much everyone, you have all been very very kind about all of this,

i got up this morning with a very nervous feeling, ididnt really want to come downstairs incase i found my boyz dead, or the 3 spot.

they must be stronger than i gave them credit for, they were at the hatch waiting for breakfast as usuall, thankgod ,the 3 spot is looking fine too((tho goodness knows how))
someone up there has been looking out for me, as i really made more than a few mistakes yesterday, adding freezing water ( way too much of it) then topping up with boiling hot water, then touching the oscars to nudge them to get them moving, taking the 3 spot from freezing to 78*( hence jumping)..and i really expected the worse to happen over night ( thats when my fish die if they are going to)

and after all that cleaning up... the tank looks minging again!!!, but i wont be stripping it ever again, - my oscars are the scruffiest fish i have ever come acropss and i love `em for it :)

Don't give up, S. Show me someone who's never made a mistake and I'll show you a liar. If it makes you feel any better, I prefer to call mistakes 'experience'...................

If money is tight for an external filter I would suggest not getting one right away. YOur main priority should be a larger tank. You have 2 oscars, loads of convicts, a 3 spot gourami (soon to be a feeder), clown loach and a commonplec all in a 48x15x18 55g tank thats what I can see from the pics you posted and the gourami that you have mentioned. You need a minimum of a 100g to keep all these fish and all hell will break loose when the cons start to breed. Instead of trying to get an external on a budget I would be all over ebay and aquarist classifieds trying to get a cheap 100g+ system and with a bit of luck you may get filter lights etc with it. You dont have as long as you think you do before your O`s and cons mature and start WW3 in your tank and ill lay money on you gourami getting it first. Also if your doing big 80% waterchanges your clowns loach will more than likely get whitespot.

Just done a quick look:

150g 5x2x2 £125
http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail59_98488.php

180g 6x2x2 £90 same seller
http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail59_95853.php

101g 6x18x18 £130 same seller
http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail59_95027.php

As you can see that 1 guy is selling a lot of kit bet you could get filters etc from him and get 1 complete set up for a good price.

cheers Mark. i didnt think of that actually, i mean buying a whole new setup, for the same price as a filter in some cases, ill have a look and hopefully come up trumps, with the tanks im selling, the cash can go toward the new setup, its not that im broke or anything, just being a mum, i have to prioritise .. and then justify :(.. if i do this properly i could come out of this on top!! ( for a change)

Lets face it, everyone makes mistakes and sometimes it's totaly out of our control.

It's no reason to give up your hobby tho, if you fall off the horse you get back on.

My advise would be, get some more fish and forget what happened, all #### happens at one (comes in waves). But good times will follow.

Cheers,

Mark.

Ill donate you a 90 litre tank, one two months old but i don't need it anymore, if that will get you started?

oh Mark that is such a kind offer, thankyou so much, but i think i would be better cutting back on the number of tanks i have,(10) 7 in use
think im going to stick with my 250L, 130L, biorb 30,and my 54L. i have a hospital tank-should i need it (40L)

tho i havent completly made up my mind yet, everything was fine till this all happened yesterday, so i think i just need to give it some thought,

but again thankyou ever so much for your very kind offer, i am really grateful
