I have 4 males in 4 different tanks. One has Cories, Plecs, Celebese Rainbows and some Neons. Another has Kuhli Loaches and snails. The third has cories and long fin blue danios with snails. The fourth has Clown Loaches, Red Tail Black Shark, Plecs, Zebra Danios and Yo-yo Loaches. Other than the occasional nipped fin in the last tank and an exceptionally lazy Betta in the second, I've never had any problems with these. In the past I've kept a pair of females in a tank with cories no problems.

3 females and one male together in my community tank.

i dont have any problems to date but i must say i only have a very nice tempered female, nice tempered males are much rarer

Have twice had bettas in community tanks with guppies and barbs and never had any problems at all. I wouldn't recommend it, but then I don't like bettas, so I wouldn't recommend them anyway :p

Actually now our Betta has been rehomed to be home alone he's given up swimming around as he used to and now just hangs around listlessly.

He really seems to miss his tank mates :(

Trouble is his tank mates are now in with gourami's and guppies so I won't try moving him back.

(The water conditions are the same, about the same amount of plant cover as his old tank, same temp only difference is size of tank and lack of tank mates.)

This question seems to be coming up frequently in the new to the hobby forum. My personal experince has been poor but other members have had no problems. I'm just wondering what the ratio is of people who think it's fine to people who would never do it again in a million years.

:good:

i did once but had to remove him, i had black skirts and silver sharks in the same tank. it was a daft idea really. he now has his own tank!

I have had male bettas in with other fish with no trouble. It was a 33 gallon, and along with the betta there were guppies, platies, and honey gourami's - all the fish you're not supposed to have in with bettas! He's a very sweet male, and there was only one nipped fin on one of the guppies the whole time he was in there. But, due to my wonderful friend, he now has his own 5 gallon with four scarlet badis for company.

In the same 33 gallon, with different tankmates now (spotted climbing perch, cherry barbs, the honey gourami's, and an angel fish) I have two female bettas, and they get along with everyone wonderfully. Actually, they pretty much seem to ignore everyone and are very focused on food! (And only get saucy with each other.)

So I could see myself putting a betta into a community tank again (male or female). But just maybe not with my new betta, because he's a bit saucy and I think would be kind of aggressive with other fish.
