Have I Waited Long Enough

ok how long do i have to leave this piece of wood tied to the rock for before it will stay in the tank on its own been a week so far came from tree root soaked it for week then put it in the tank been tank for week how much longer :drool:

It might not float away now or it might take another 6 months to sink properly. There are too many variables to really be able to guess. Each type of wood will absorb water more or less easily than the next and the wood density also varies a lot from species to species. All attempts to sink wood without added weights are experimental. I have wood in my tanks attached to slate because it never sinks on its own. Some have been in the tank for years and if I removed the slate, they would float.
 
Didn't we see some other pictures of that in another thread camaroguy? I remember thinking it looked like too much bark to be an old dried out piece of driftwood. Are you sure it isn't young enough to still have sap in it?

ps. OM, now you've made me pessimistic! Just got a good looking piece of wood myself and am about to start soaking it. I was hoping I wouldn't have to seek advice from you on attaching slate to it, darn it... we shall see.
